Featuring testimonials from faculty and students, this video provides an overview of the student experience for those that study real estate at the GW School of Business.
Real Estate Concentration
Available to GW School of Business undergraduate students only
Required: 15 credits (three required courses, two electives)
Delivery: In-Person, Foggy Bottom
The concentration in real estate provides students with the knowledge base in finance, real estate investment, development, valuation, and strategic planning to help prepare them for an entry-level position in the real estate industry.
GW is now one of only a few major universities – and the only one in Washington, D.C. – that offers an undergraduate concentration in real estate. Most of the field courses in this concentration are at the graduate level, which may give students who complete the program a competitive advantage vis-a-vis students from other universities.
Real Estate Minor
Open to NON-GWSB undergraduate students only (available to students enrolled in other GW schools)
Required: 18 credits (four required courses, two electives)
Delivery: In-Person, Foggy Bottom
The minor in real estate provides students with the knowledge base in finance, real estate investment, development, valuation, and strategic planning to help prepare them for an entry-level position in the real estate industry. Most of the field courses in this concentration are at the graduate level, which may give students who complete the program a competitive advantage vis-a-vis students from other universities.
Graduate Certificate in Affordable Housing
Post-Baccalaureate Students
Required: 12 credits (2 required courses, 2 electives)
Delivery: In-Person, Foggy Bottom
Affordable housing is one of the most pressing challenges of our time. The GW School of Business graduate certificate in affordable housing gives students the skills, knowledge, and network to make a real impact. Designed for professionals across the real estate, finance, policy, and nonprofit sectors, the program equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the complexities of affordable housing policy, finance, development, and advocacy, all from a business perspective. Students develop the expertise to lead, whether they are looking to advance their career, pivot into affordable housing, or influence housing policy.
"Through the dynamic real estate course work and extracurricular activities such as the Commercial Real Estate Network and the Real Estate & Finance Alliance (REFA) program, GW gave me a head start in my real estate career that provided me with a significant edge as compared to my peers. These comprehensive experiences remain highly relevant and invaluable to me today. From financial modeling workshops, case study competitions abroad and targeted coursework covering real estate development, finance, strategy and urban planning, my time at GW has had an indelible impact on me."
